Sylwia, Sebastian, Grayson and Damian. That’s us. Grayson is 6 and Damian is 4. We are currently living in Poland but this hasn’t always been the case. Let me explain.
Sylwia and I were both born and raised in Poland. I come from a small city of Grajewo, which is in the northeastern part of Poland. Sylwia on the other hand is from Tarnów which is in the southern part of the Country. At around the age of 11 I moved to Chicago with my mom. Sylwia’s move to Chicago didn’t happen until 3 years later when she was 14. We didn’t know each other until we met in Lake Villa, both at the age of 14. We went to the same high school together and remained friends. After high school, I joined the United States Air Force leaving our little town and Sylwia behind. I spent 6 years in the AF where I was mostly stationed in Tucson, AZ. I also went on small deployments to the UK, Oman and my last two years of enlistment were in South Korea.
After separating from the AF I came back to Lake Villa where I reconnected with Sylwia. She was working full time while attending college part time. I took advantage of my educational benefits that the military offered and began going to college full time.
Four years later we both graduated, I with a Finance degree and Sylwia with Accounting, were married and started looking for our first apartment together. Fast forward a few more years and we were living the good life in downtown Chicago. We purchased a studio in Marina Towers (corn on the cob buildings) where I had a five-minute walk to the Cook County Public Guardian’s office where I worked and Sylwia had a short commute to Evanston. Life was good.
After a couple of years of the good life our first son, Grayson was born and that’s when we decided it was time to leave the city. We closed on our condo and moved out the weekend our son was born. We ended up moving to a small house that we completely renovated in the suburbs near Lake Villa. 2 years later our second son, Damian was born. At this time our little house was sold and we purchased and moved into a townhouse in Lake Villa. Sylwia also started her own Accounting / Bookkeeping business from home.
Then a few years later Sylwia’s aunt from Poland passed away unexpectedly. An opportunity came to purchase her condo in Tarnów so we made it happen. Sylwia’s grandparents (her father’s parents) owned the condo since it was built in 1964. Sylwia grew up there and had many great memories in that condo. After 60 years though, it needed a bit of TLC so we decided to completely renovate it to make it our own. This is where we are today and are looking forward to the next adventure.
