Fried Bugs and Zapiekanki

We hit up a local spot that we've been to once before that sells "Zapiekanki". Out of all the places with zapiekanki that we've been to around here, this is the only one I was willing to come back to. Not amazing but good enough for a second visit.

In the parking lot across the street they had my favorite old school car from when I was a kid. It's a Fiat 126 nicknamed the "Maluch", for obvious reasons. When I was growing up in Poland during the 90's, these things were quite popular and you saw them everywhere.

What a classic. I'd love to get one restored to its original glory and drive it around town during summers here.

After a 15 minute wait we had piping hot zapiekanki. I always order mine with ham and green onion. Sylwia prefers it without the ham. And the boys, well, they don't mind either way.

The kids didn't attend school today as they both caught the flu and had to fully recover before going back, per school orders. I guess too many kids are getting sick and the cycle never ends. Sylwia wasn't feeling the greatest either and I'm certain it's just a matter of time before it's my turn to suffer.

On Saturday the boys were feeling better and the weather was nice enough so I took them outside for a walk. We stumbled on a food fair inside a big arena near our condo building. They had quite a variety of different foods including a few asian favorites like Pad Thai, Curry, Pho, lots of homemade sweets and smoked wild meats. Oh, and let's not forget the fried bugs.

This was probably the tastiest thing they had there, Venison and wild boar sausages. I wish I would have purchased more.

I have to be honest, the soups were nothing special. Lacked flavor on both the Pho and the Curry. After the disappointment I didn't even bother trying to Pad Thai. Poland has been a total bust for us when it comes to food, Polish or otherwise.

I think we preferred the fried bugs over the soups, although they were very heavily coated in oil. The kids seemed to enjoy them more than I did.
