First Flight – Florida Bound

Florida was usually on our minds when we thought of a vacation away from Chicago and Illinois, especially during the cold Midwest winter months. Although neither one of us wanted to drag the kids on an airplane for an extended period of time at their age for in this case a 3-hour flight. It’s also because we knew early on that Damian was a bit fearful of planes up close and personal. Their mere size intimidated him quite a bit.He was comfortable going to the airport but we always had to assure him that he would not be going inside the plane or flying in one, we were just going to pick up or drop off someone so they could board and fly somewhere. Needless to say, the idea of going inside a plane and taking off gave him some anxiety. But this time was different because a distant relative of mine who happens to own a beautiful condo on the beach in Palm Beach made us an offer we simply couldn’t refuse. She was renting the condo to long term tenants but their lease just ended a month prior and they decided to move out. The unit was fully furnished and was now sitting vacant for us to enjoy. We immediately started looking for flights and a car rental. Prices were very reasonable for both as this was Florida’s low season so we booked a 7-day trip.

After all, Damian did just fine on his first flight. After we promised cartoons and TV screens in front of their seats, he was sold.

This was the perfect opportunity to try out a 4-door Jeep Wrangler like we’ve always wanted.
